To extend the success of the first summer school for postgraduate students in 2022, the Institute of Communication Studies, Communication University of China, the School of Journalism, Yunnan University (College of International Communication of South and Southeast Asia), and the Sub-Committee of Journalism and Communication of South & Southeast Asian University Network will once again collaborate to hold the second summer school of most updated theories and research methods on international communication for postgraduate students (in South and Southeast Asia) from Aug 13 to 21, 2023.

In response to the rapid changes brought about by the unprecedented changes of the century, the establishment of summer school aims to reinforce the development of an internationally renowned academic system with distinctive Chinese characteristics. It seeks to deepen the understanding of the evolving landscape of international communication practices and theories in the context of accelerated advancements in new media technology. By facilitating communication and exchange among the international academic community, the summer school aims to cultivate the abilities of young scholars and students to comprehend, explore, and effectively navigate the dynamic theories and practices of international communication. Furthermore, it aims to enhance their understanding of the broader social structures and contextual factors that shape these dynamics. This initiative is set to contribute intellectual strength to the construction of China's international communication capabilities.

In this summer school, Chinese and renowned foreign scholars will be invited to give lectures and engage in discussions on the most updated theories and practices in international communication and provide training and instructions on mainstream and advanced research methods in the field of international communication. By various means such as courses, seminars, and special activities, we aim to increase the research interest and theoretical level of young scholars, doctoral and master's students in the field of international communication, help them expand research paths, enrich research perspectives, find out innovative research methods, and contribute to the establishment of an international academic community of communication.

This summer school, with its courses and seminars, will be held in Kunming, capital city of Southwest China's Yunnan province. No fees will be charged to students, but expenses on transportation and accommodation should be paid by themselves.

Recruitment requirements: Doctoral and master's students in relevant majors from Chinese and foreign universities, as well as young scholars under the age of 40 who are currently employed.

Graduation form: Each student needs to complete the course and seminar tasks before being granted a certificate of graduation from the 2023 Summer School of Most Updated Theories and Research Methods on International Communication (in South Asia and Southeast Asia)
